On Fan Art

Fan Art, for the sake of definition, is any still and non-sequential image created by an individual person. Sequential images, images with dialogue or narration, comics, and animations would constitute an adaption.

Fan art is permitted within certain constraints.

  • You are permitted to create an image of anything that does not constitute Spite fiction, Hijacking, or problematic content.
  • You are also permitted, however, to draw Nos Printer, their people, and Matare’ekon, provided the images are not lewd or erotic in nature.

As with fanfiction, I maintain final say as to what I do and do not consider “fair use.”

Additionally, if you draw erotic content, I have no desire to see it.

Fan art may also be sold within certain constraints.

  • It is your own original work. You may not sell AI images or hire someone to create an image you intend to make profit off of.
  • It is self-sponsorship and not a “business endeavor.” That is, (for example) if you’re a single artist taking commissions or selling prints at a convention, that is fine. If your goal, in contrast, (for example) is to a create a line of “The Travels of Nos Printer” merchandise–that is not permitted without permission.
  • You pay attribution where it is due.

Another way to describe this: If your image could constitute an “advertisement” for the series, then you may sell it and I will consider what profit you make to be compensation for such advertisement. However, if your end goal is to financially exploit my series, even with attribution–this is specifical what copyright laws are intended to prevent. Please request permission.
